Malacca UNESCO World Heritage City

Malacca, a UNESCO World heritage City, is a famous historic port strategically situated on the Straits of Malacca. It was established in 1403 by a Sumatran Prince, Parameswara who was the person founded the Malacca Sultanate. Malacca was an important trading port which attracted traders from all over the world in early history of Malaysia. This capital city is divided into the new and old sections. The older section (historical heart of the city) was packed with many historical attractions which ranging from the old world charm of buildings and architecture inherited from centuries of Portuguese, Dutch and British rule and the chances of witnessing the various customs and cultures of its people. 

Malacca City is ideal for walking around with foot. You can run down into any street in its historical heart and discovery the fascinating crafts and traditional trades along the streets. Taking a ride in a colourful trishaw is an exciting experience not to be missed in Malacca. Historical places such as St Paul's Church  and A' Farmosa are sitting on the St Paul's Hill, just above the Town Square. Christ Church and the Stadhuys are within walking distance from the seafront area near the river. In Malacca, it is much fun to enjoy the shopping experience by patronizing the antique stores, galleries and souvenir shops.


A'Farmosa

 

 

A'Farmosa (Porta De Santiago) was built in 1511 by the Portuguese admiral Alfonso d'Albuquerque. It was badly damaged by the Dutch in 1641, subsequently was saved by Sir Stanford Raffles, a British official.

 


Christ Church

 

 

 

Christ Church, a Dutch Reformed Church built in 1753.  Located next to the Stadhuys, which is the attraction of visitors.


Cheng Hoon Teng (Chinese Temple)

 

 

Cheng Hoon Teng Temple, situated at Jln. Tokong or Harmonious Street which is near Jonker Street. Cheng Hoon Teng Temple also known as the Green Clouds Temple, being one of the famous tourist attraction.
