Fort Cornwallis was the East India Company's first military and administrative base erected in 1786 in Penang. It was built on the historic site of Sir Francis Light's historic landing. Relics such as chapel, gunpower magazine and cell rooms were found in the fort. The famous dutch cannon or meriam seri rambai is one of the attraction. It was presented to the Sultan of Johor by the Dutch at the time. At the fort Cornwallis, you can see an open-air amphitheatre, a history gallery, cafe as well as handicraft and souvenir centre.
