Penang Island - The Pearl of The Orient

Penang, commonly known as "The Pearl of the Orient", is one of the most visited places in Malaysia. This beautiful state situated at the north of Peninsular Malaysia and comprises of Seberang Perai on the mainland of Peninsular Malaysia and a small island, Penang Island. Penang Bridge,the longest in Asia with length of 13.5km linking Seberang Perai on the mainland of Peninsula and Gelugor on the island of Penang is the icon of Penang. The ferry service is the oldest in the country, loyally providing service to the local people. Its World UNESCO Heritage Site's status added its beauty to the island and makes it one of the popular attractions into the tourist's map. George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site

 

 

George Town is the capital of Penang which is also the centre for Penang state administration and centre for important commercial activities, social activities and entertainment. Kek Lok Si Temple

 

Kek Lok Si  or the Temple of Supreme Bliss towers situated on top of a hill, in  Ayer Itam. It house the  largest Buddhist Temple complex in Southeast Asia.  The Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas which comprises seven tiers is the main pagoda in the temple. Fort Cirnwallis, Penang

 

 

Fort Cornwallis was the East India Company's first military and administrative base. It was erected in 1786 on the site of Sir Francis Light's historic landing. The Goddes Mercy Temple

 

 

This popular temple is known as The Goddess Mercy Temple, dedicated to Kuan Yin and known as Kuan Yin Teng, the Goddess of Mercy. The first foundation was laid in 1728 by Chinese settlers and completed in 1800. More >>
