Chinese New Year Cultural and Heritage Celebration 2012 - George Town, Penang

This year, the inner city of George Town , the UNESCO Heritage Site was changed into a fairlyland of lights as 2,400 bright red lanterns were lit up for the first time this year.

The lanterns were put up in most of the roads surrounding Armenian Street in conjunction with the upcoming annual Chinese New Year Cultural and Heritage Celebration. There are two towering golden dragons standing by the sides of the arch at the entrance to the site. Various types of festive decorations will be putting up by the organising committee. The lanterns would be lit every night from 11/01/2012 until Chap Goh Meh - the 15th and final day of Chinese New Year that falls on Feb 6, 2012.

The Chinese New Year Cultural and Heritage Celebration is jointly organised by the Penang Chinese Clan Council, Penang Clan Associations Youth Committee and Penang Government. E&O Hotel and Star Cruise are co-sponsors of the event.

The time for the event is from 3pm to midnight on 29 January 2012.
